Wedding photographer Basel – your most beautiful moments captured
Welcome to Foto & Video Salva GmbH. My name is Giuseppe Salva, and I have been a wedding photographer in Basel since 2015 with a family photography tradition dating back to 1978. As a wedding photographer Basel, I understand that your wedding day is one of the most important days in your life. It’s not just about taking photos – it’s about capturing the feelings, the emotions and the precious moments that you and your loved ones will remember forever.
Over the past eleven years, I have had the privilege of photographing more than 500 weddings. Every bride and groom is unique, every wedding tells a different story, and that’s my passion: capturing the real, candid moments that tell your love story. With over 70 five-star Google reviews and multiple awards – including the Wedding Award 2020 and the Wedisson Award – I can proudly say that my clients love my work.
As a wedding photographer Basel, I make sure that every wedding day is documented in the best possible way. My approach is based on true documentary storytelling, capturing the essence of your celebration without being artificial. You will recognize yourself in your wedding photos – genuine, emotional and wonderful.
My style as a wedding photographer Basel
The art of emotional wedding photography
As a wedding photographer in Basel, I have developed my very own style that focuses on documentation and emotions. I don’t believe in rigid posing or pleasing images. Instead, I move discreetly throughout your ceremony, capturing the moments as they naturally arise. When the groom sees you for the first time on the day – that moment of surprise and emotion in his eyes – that’s what I want to capture. When your grandmother hugs you and sheds tears of joy, when you see in your partner’s eyes that you are the most important person in the world – these moments are priceless.
My approach as a wedding photographer Basel combines technical skill with artistic flair. I use the latest camera technology and understand the nuances of light and shadow to create the best conditions for each scene. But the technology is just the tool – what counts is the human eye, the ability to recognize the right moments and capture them in a way that tells a story.
Every wedding photo in my portfolio is part of a bigger story. Hundreds of photos are taken during the day, but not all of them are equally important. My job as a wedding photographer Basel is to select the 500-600 best photos that form a cohesive, chronological narrative. These photos will be a constant reminder of the beauty, joy and love of the day.
Wedding photography and video from a single source
The advantage of a complete solution
A special feature of our work as a wedding photographer Basel and video expert is that we offer both from a single source. Many bridal couples ask themselves the question: Should we book a wedding photographer and a separate videographer? With us, that’s not necessary. I understand both disciplines in depth and can combine them harmoniously.
The advantage is obvious: consistency. The visual style, the color coordination, the perceived framing – everything fits together. You not only get static photos, but also moving images that capture the dynamics and music of your wedding. Many of my clients are surprised at how well photos and videos can complement each other in a project. A photo shows a moment, a video shows the story around that moment.
As a wedding photographer Basel, I offer flexible packages that include photography alone, video alone or both combined. We also have specialized photo books that capture the best moments in a valuable printed product – something you can still enjoy 20 years from now. For the wedding guests, we also offer a photobooth where guests can take their own fun photos to make the evening even more lively.
The most beautiful wedding venues in Basel
Your ideal location for the big day
As a wedding photographer in Basel, I have been photographing at the most beautiful locations in and around Basel for many years. I know each location with its advantages and challenges, and I can help you find the perfect backdrop for your love story. Here are the locations I particularly enjoy working at:
Locations in Basel-Stadt
Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois is one of my absolute favorite locations as a wedding photographer in Basel. This historic luxury hotel on the Rhine promenade offers spectacular views of the Rhine and the picturesque old town. The hotel has wonderful interior rooms with elegant ceilings, gold-decorated mirrors and classic charm. When the sun goes down, the banks of the Rhine and the old bridges become a romantic movie set – perfect for couple shoots and aperitif photos.
Merian Gardens is a hidden treasure that many people don’t know about. These beautiful gardens with their manicured grounds, mature trees and tranquil spots are ideal for wedding photography. The greenery and flowers provide natural backdrops and the atmosphere is very intimate and romantic. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I love Merian Gardens because it is possible to create different scenarios in the same location – from the wedding ceremony under the trees to the formal couple shoot in front of floral backdrops.
Ostquai is perfect for bridal couples who prefer a modern, urban style. The Rhine embankment promenade with its restaurants, art installations and modern city ambience provides a chic backdrop. The industrial architecture combined with the natural beauty of the Rhine creates an interesting play of contrasts. I have taken many beautiful couple photos here.
Sandoase is a brand new trend venue in Basel for wedding celebrations. The sandy beach on the Rhine with sun loungers and a relaxed atmosphere is perfect for modern, more laid-back weddings. The sand, the water and the expansive Rhine landscape offer wonderful natural photo opportunities. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I see a lot of newlyweds here who would like to have a bit of a beach vibe in Basel.
Halle Sieben is one of the most exciting locations I know. This converted industrial building in Basel-Mähne offers raw, authentic spaces with high ceilings, brick and industrial charm. The lofts and rooms are very flexible and the natural light streaming through the large windows is a wedding photographer’s dream. If you prefer a modern, creative look, Halle Sieben is an insider tip location.
Gare du Nord is a historic station concourse with wonderfully decorated railroad architecture. The light streaming through the old glass roofs creates magical effects, especially in the early morning or late evening. The vintage railroad aesthetic provides a unique backdrop. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I find that Gare du Nord is particularly suitable for bridal couples with a passion for history and authenticity.
Safran Zunft is a medieval guild house with real Basel character. The old wooden beams, the paneling and the authentic atmosphere will transport you centuries into the past. For bridal couples who like Basel tradition, this is a wonderful location. The large hall allows for the most beautiful wedding photos with a historical background.
Kulturkirche Paulus is a newer cultural venue in Basel that also allows wedding ceremonies. The modern room layout combined with a spiritual ambience create an extraordinary atmosphere. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I like the fact that modern elements are combined with classic church architecture.
Teufelhof Basel is a cultural hotel with a colorful, creative flair. The many different rooms, the art installations and the bohemian atmosphere are perfect for unconventional bridal couples. Each room offers different photographic opportunities, and the colors and works of art create wonderful backgrounds for modern wedding photos.
Grand Casino Basel is pure elegance. The magnificent rooms, the chandeliers, the marble steps and the classic luxury furnishings provide a stately backdrop. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I love working here because every room automatically looks festive. The Grand Casino is ideal for formal and elegant weddings.
Altes Kraftwerk is another converted industrial location that is very popular. The building with its imposing architecture, large windows and open floor plan allows for a lot of creativity when it comes to interior design. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I prefer the Altes Kraftwerk for bridal couples who want an elegant but modern ambience.
Locations in the Basel region and the surrounding area
Binningen Castle is a beautiful castle with park-like gardens near Basel. The facade of the castle with its towers and classic architectural elements provides an elegant backdrop. The surrounding gardens are perfect for couple shoots and group photographs. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I visit this castle several times a year and it is always beautiful.
Bottmingen Castle (Weiherschloss) is a dream for every wedding photographer. This moated castle with its reflections in the lake is absolutely magical. The combination of historic castle, water, gardens and forest creates unlimited photographic opportunities. Especially at sunset, the lights at the castle are switched on and the reflections in the water are priceless. I have taken some of my absolute favorite wedding photos at Bottmingen Castle.
Bad Schauenburg is an elegant hotel and event location in a historic building. The views of the surrounding area, the manicured gardens and the classic interior design make it a popular choice. The setting is less touristy than other locations but still offers great beauty. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I enjoy working here because the atmosphere is calm and focused.
Village Garden is a modern event area with an artistic focus. The combination of nature and culture, gardens and art objects, creates a unique atmosphere. This is an exceptional choice for creative bridal couples. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I particularly like the flexibility and the many photographic perspectives that Village Garden offers.
Wildenstein Castle is one of the most imposing castles in the region. The location on a hill with a view, the massive stone walls and the historical presence make it a truly impressive place. The driveway alone is wonderful for photography. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I work here for bridal couples who like a grandiose, powerful backdrop.
Civil wedding in Basel
The most beautiful places for your wedding ceremony
Many bridal couples choose a civil wedding instead of or in addition to a church wedding. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I have taken part in many official weddings and know the best locations and procedures for this important moment. Here are the locations where I particularly enjoy photographing civil weddings.
Registry offices and official locations in Basel-Stadt
The Rittergasse registry office is the main office for marriage ceremonies in Basel. The classic rooms offer a formal but permanent atmosphere. The rooms are furnished with historical elements and provide a traditional backdrop for the wedding ceremony. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I have been here many times and photographed these wedding venues.
The Stadthaus Basel (Buergergemeinderatssaal) is a wonderfully elegant wedding venue. The classical architecture, the paintings and the calm atmosphere create a dignified setting for this important moment. The hall is not too big and not too small – there is room for 50-150 guests, which allows for a more intimate atmosphere than some larger buildings.
The Luescherhaus in Riehen is a private historic building that can be rented for wedding ceremonies. The beautiful location, the classical architecture and the gardens make this a very special place. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I enjoy working here because the setting is more natural than an official town hall.
The Baslerhof barn in Bettingen is a rustic barn with a lot of character. The wooden architecture and rural location offer a completely different energy to city center locations. This is ideal for bridal couples who prefer a location closer to nature.
Registry offices and locations in Basel-Landschaft
The Arlesheim registry office is an impressive building with classic architecture. The wedding rooms are elegantly furnished and offer a permanent atmosphere.
Binningen Castle can also be hired for wedding ceremonies – the historic castle provides a particularly elegant backdrop for weddings.
Bottmingen Castle (Weiherschloss) is also a popular wedding venue. The magical location with the lake and the castle makes this an unforgettable moment.
Schloss Ebenrain Sissach is an imposing castle with beautiful gardens. This is ideal for bridal couples who like a grandiose backdrop.
Wildenstein Castle is also available for weddings and offers a truly impressive atmosphere.
Procedure of a wedding reportage
A whole day with Giuseppe – from morning to midnight
As a wedding photographer in Basel, I work with you throughout the day to capture every precious moment. Here is a typical sequence of how I carry out a wedding reportage:
Getting Ready – The preparations
The day starts early in the morning with the preparations. I come to your home or hotel and photograph while you get dressed. This is a very intimate time – the nervousness, the excitement, the support from family and friends. I capture the bride getting her hair done, the groom tying his tie, the sister holding the flowers. These moments are so valuable for later because they show who did what and how everyone felt.
The wedding ceremony
The wedding ceremony is the highlight. Whether church or registry office, I am present during the ceremony and photograph discreetly. The moment when you see each other for the first time, the look between the two of you during the vows, the tears, the laughter – I capture it all. After the ceremony, I organize an overview photo of all the guests.
Couple shoot – The romantic moments
After the ceremony, the two of us go to the couple shoot. This is my favorite time as a wedding photographer Basel because I can photograph you both in your happiest state, with no other distractions. We choose wonderful backgrounds – maybe the Merian Gardens, maybe Bottmingen Castle, maybe a quiet street in the old town. I ask you questions, I tell jokes, I create a relaxed atmosphere so that the pictures look natural and genuine. This session typically lasts 1-2 hours.
Aperitif and group photos
Then it’s back to the aperitif with the guests. I continue to take photos – the guests enjoying drinks, the hugs, the group photos with families. This is often where the funniest and liveliest pictures are taken.
Evening program and dinner
I take more subtle photos during the dinner. I capture how the guests eat, how the speakers go in front of the microphone, how they have their first dance session. Every moment counts and my aim is to tell the story of the day chronologically.
Night – The celebration
The evening often brings the wildest and most joyful moments. The dancers become livelier, the music louder, the emotions deeper. I use flash and other techniques to capture this energy. The wedding cake, the first dancer, the friends dancing crazily – everything has its place in wedding photography.
Tips for successful wedding photos in Basel
How to get the best out of your wedding photography
As a wedding photographer in Basel, I would like to share a few tips with you to help make your wedding photos really wonderful:
Choose the right light time – The light in Basel is simply glorious at certain times of the year and day. The “golden hour” – just before sunset – creates magical, warm color tones. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I often plan my couple shoot so that we take photos in this light. If you get married early, we can go back later in the evening for a couple shoot when the light is nice.
Plan enough time for photography – Every location in Basel needs time to scout and find the best positions. If you only have 30 minutes for the couple shoot, the photos will feel rushed. Plan at least 1-2 hours so that we have time to visit different locations and use different lighting situations.
Take time for your feelings – As a wedding photographer in Basel, I often see bridal couples who are too stressed or too focused on everything that needs to be organized. The most important tip is: take a deep breath and enjoy the moment. The best wedding photos are taken when you feel real emotions. If you are happy, this will be visible in every photo.
Choose clothes that really make you feel you – your wedding dress and suit should feel wonderful and you should be yourself in them. If the dress is too tight or you feel uncomfortable in it, it will show. When choosing your wedding wardrobe, think about how you want to move and pose and choose accordingly.
Invest in the details – Small details like rings, bouquets, boutonnieres, wedding cake – all these elements are part of your story. As a wedding photographer Basel, I pay a lot of attention to these details and photograph them up-close. Choose detail elements that fit your style and they will look beautiful in the photos.
Do an engagement shoot beforehand – Many of my favorite photos are taken during a previous photo shoot with the bride and groom, often a few weeks or months before the wedding. This gives us a chance to practice, explore different styles, and the couple will already know my way of working. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I recommend this to every couple.
Trust your photographer – at the end of the day: Trust that I know what I’m doing. As a wedding photographer in Basel, this is not my first time at a wedding. I understand light, composition, timing. If I suggest staying in this light for a few minutes or going to another location, that’s my professional experience working for you.
What our bridal couples say
Real voices of happy couples
As a Basel wedding photographer, I am particularly proud of the reviews and feedback I receive from my clients. With over 70 five-star Google reviews and an average of 5 stars, I am grateful for the trust. Here are some real testimonials from brides and grooms I have worked with in Basel:
Sarah and Michael (wedding at the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois): “Giuseppe was a dream as a photographer. He was discreet but always in the right place at the right time. Our wedding photos tell our story so beautifully. We have looked at the pictures repeatedly and each time we find new details and moments that make us smile. Absolute recommendation for a wedding photographer Basel.”
Nina and Toni (wedding at Bottmingen Castle): “We wanted the most beautiful photos combined with video if possible, and Giuseppe offered us just that. The combination of photos and video worked wonderfully. The photo album he created for us sits on our coffee table and is a real eye-catcher. Thank you Giuseppe!”
Lisa and David (wedding in Halle Sieben): “As a modern couple, we didn’t want traditional wedding photos. Giuseppe understood our vision perfectly. The pictures are edgy, modern, but still emotional. We worked with a photographer who really understood our style. For the more modern wedding photographer Basel, we can only recommend Giuseppe.”
Anna and Marco (Merian Gardens wedding): “Giuseppe wasn’t just a photographer, he was almost a member of our family on the day. He was so storytelling, reassuring and professional. The moments he captured – especially my grandmother hugging me – are priceless. We will cherish these photos for the rest of our lives.”
Sophia and Stefan (Wedding Altes Kraftwerk): “As a wedding photographer in Basel, Giuseppe proves that a local photographer really can be world class. His editing, his eye for composition, his understanding of the emotional moments – all at the highest level. We can’t say enough how pleased we are.”
Wedding fairs in Basel 2026
Meet me at the Basel wedding fair
If you are planning to get married in 2026, the wedding fairs in Basel are a great opportunity to get to know different suppliers and gather inspiration. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I am represented at many of these fairs and look forward to meeting you.
Brautwelt Basel typically takes place in spring and is one of the largest wedding fairs in the region. Here you will not only meet photographers, but also florists, catering providers, decorations, venues and much more. If you stop by our booth, you can view my portfolio and we can talk about your wedding plans.
Mariage Basel is another important fair, often in late fall or early winter. This fair has a more exclusive character and focuses on upscale wedding services.
At these fairs I show examples of wedding photos from various locations in Basel – from the Grand Hotel Les Trois Rois to Bottmingen Castle. You can see the quality of my work, explore styles and perhaps develop initial ideas for your own wedding.
Frequently asked questions
The answers to your most important questions
How much does a wedding photography with wedding photographer Basel cost?
The cost of wedding photography varies depending on your requirements. I generally offer packages that include 8 hours of photography with around 500-600 selected photos. My standard packages start at around CHF 3500-4500. If you also want video, this is an additional cost of CHF 2000-3000. All packages are customizable. I am happy to work with you to create a package that fits your budget.
How long does a wedding reportage as a wedding photographer Basel take?
A standard wedding reportage typically lasts 8-10 hours, but this is flexible. Some couples want me to be present during the preparation (getting ready), others start at the ceremony. I am also available for shorter sessions – e.g. couple shoot only or wedding ceremony plus aperitif only. Discuss your needs with me and I will put together a package that is right for you.
What is your policy if it rains on the wedding day?
Rain is not uncommon in Basel, especially in spring and fall. As a wedding photographer in Basel, I am prepared for this. The rain doesn’t harm the photography – in fact, there are wonderful, atmospheric photos that are created in cloudy weather. When it rains, we use the available spaces more visually – maybe your location indoor spaces, or we go into the couple shoot in the rainy streets of the old town, which has quite a romantic energy. I have waterproof equipment and am always prepared.
How long does it take until I receive my wedding photos?
Typically, you will receive your edited and selected photos within 4-6 weeks after your wedding. During this time, I review all the images, select the best ones, and edit them with my style. A hasty delivery would jeopardize quality. I want to give you photos that are truly beautiful.
How many photos will I receive of my wedding?
For an 8-hour wedding, I take around 1500-2000 photos in total. From these, I select the best 500-600, edit them and provide you with the final photos. This selection is carefully considered – each photo tells a part of your story and contributes to the whole.
Do you also offer destination weddings? Do you also take photographs outside Basel?
Yes, absolutely! As a wedding photographer in Basel and throughout Switzerland, I am open to destination weddings. I have also photographed bridal couples in Zurich, Bern, Lucerne, Ticino and other Swiss locations. If you are planning to get married outside of Basel but would like me to be your photographer, talk to me – we will find a solution. Ferry costs and travel expenses would have to be considered additionally.
What is an engagement shoot and should I do one?
An engagement shoot is a photo session with the two of you before the actual wedding – typically a few weeks or months before. This is a chance to relax and photograph together, explore different locations in Basel, and get to know me. Many couples find that this reduces nervousness on the wedding day itself because they know how I work. The engagement shoot is optional, but it is often much appreciated.
Can I combine video and photography? What does it cost?
Yes, I offer video and photography combined, and this is one of my favorite services. If you wish, I can accompany you all day with my camera and take both static photos and moving videos. A combined package typically costs CHF 5500-7500 depending on length and editing requirements. Many couples love the combination because they use the photos for print and the videos for digital sharing to share wedding moments with family around the world.
What clothes should I choose for my couple shoot?
This is of course your choice, but I have a few recommendations. The wedding dress is of course wonderful for traditional photos. But if you also like some more casual photos, we can bring a second outfit. For the groom, I recommend at least taking off the jacket during the couple shoot for a more relaxed look. Colors that match your skin and hair color photograph better than contrasting colors. Let’s talk about it – I’m happy to be a consultant.
How early should I book a wedding photographer Basel?
It is ideal to book me 6-12 months before your wedding. This gives me time to plan the day into my calendar and make sure I am available. In the wedding season (May to September) popular dates book up quickly. But even when your wedding is approaching, talk to me – I often try to still find dates.
Do you offer a photo album or printed products?
Yes, absolutely. In addition to digital files, I offer high quality photo albums made by professional printers. These albums are made of genuine leather, with premium paper, and are truly a value item that you will enjoy for decades. I will help you with the design, selecting the best photos and creating the layout. A high quality photo album typically costs CHF 800-2000, depending on size and specifications.
