Wedding Schadau Castle – Alexa and Roman said “I do” on May 8, 2026 at Wedding Schadau Castle in Thun. An intimate wedding with 35 guests, a free wedding ceremony on the lakeshore and a panorama framed by the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. For us at Foto & Video Salva, it was a reportage that shows what has driven us as a second-generation family business since 1978: Photographing days as they actually felt for the couple.
We traveled from Basel because beautiful weddings don’t stop at cantonal borders. Wedding Schadau Castle is one of the most impressive wedding venues in Switzerland, and this day showed why.
A location from another century
Schadau Castle is located directly on Lake Thun, nestled in Schadaupark with a view of the Alps. Built between 1846 and 1854 in the neo-Renaissance style, it is now considered one of the most beautiful event locations in Switzerland. For weddings, the castle offers everything a reportage needs: historic interiors with high ceilings, a curved staircase in the entrance area, a terrace overlooking the lake and a park suitable for open-air weddings.
We accompanied Roman as he got ready in one of the upstairs rooms, where the daylight fell softly through the old mullioned windows. Alexa stood by the window in her wedding dress shortly afterwards, calm and focused, while we captured the details of her look.
Saying “I do” with a mountain panorama
The free wedding ceremony began at 4 pm on the terrace overlooking the lake at Wedding Schadau Castle. A speaker in an olive green dress led through the ceremony, accompanied by a guitarist playing live. In the background was the water of Lake Thun, with the snow-capped peaks behind it. The procession after the ceremony led between the rows of white chairs, past hydrangeas and applauding guests. A classic moment, in a setting that makes it special.
Time for the people who count
With 35 guests, a wedding is small enough for every congratulation to be a real moment. There was an aperitif on the terrace in front of the castle, with family photos in between and a group photo with everyone at the end. In situations like this, we work in a calm and structured way so that nobody feels they have to wait too long.
The curved staircase
The centerpiece of the interior of Schadau Castle is the curved staircase in the entrance hall, framed by delicate stucco work and a marble checkerboard floor. We photographed Alexa and Roman there, along with a group picture with their closest friends in a staged setting with cigars, in classic James Bond style. It is one of the pictures that the couple themselves inspired, and it is precisely these ideas that make reportages personal.

Finally, we went back to the lake with Alexa and Roman. The evening light in May is particularly soft in the Bernese Oberland because it lingers longer over the water than elsewhere. We took pictures in the allium bed in front of the castle, classic bridal couple pictures with a mountain panorama and a detail in black and white of the clasped hands with the wedding rings. For us, such detailed images are part of every reportage because they capture the quiet moments that are otherwise easily lost.
Finally, we went back to the lake at Wedding Schadau Castle with Alexa and Roman. The evening light in May is particularly soft in the Bernese Oberland because it lingers longer over the water than elsewhere. At 7.30 pm our mission was officially over and Alexa and Roman went into the evening with their guests.
