A bird’s eye view of the project launch

Identified task to streamline and remove repetitions

The start of the Hochhaus Heuwaage Basel project marks the beginning of something special. For the next five years, I will be following the development of this building with my camera, from the initial construction phase through to completion, captured in a series of blog posts.

It starts with a flight over the construction site. I took the first shots with the drone and saw just how big this project really is. From above, the scale is immediately visible, the site, the surrounding city and the empty space that will be transformed into a striking high-rise in a few years’ time.

This perspective is unique. There are still no walls, no floors, no roof. This is precisely why these first pictures are so valuable, they show the zero point, the beginning of something big.

I am looking forward to everything that is yet to come. Over the next few years, I will be on site regularly to capture every important milestone photographically and on video. Drone shots, interior shots, crane assembly, shell construction, façade and finally the completion.

High-rise building Heuwaage Basel, first insights into the interior

The Heuwaage Basel high-rise building before the major transformation. Before the conversion work begins, I had the opportunity to document the entire building from the inside. Entrance, stairwells, corridors, empty apartments, kitchens, bathrooms, utility rooms, cellar, roof terrace and the façade from the outside.

Every corner tells a story. You can see how the building has lived and worked over the decades. These photographs are a document of the before, before everything became new.

Over the next five years, I will continue to accompany this project with my camera and record every milestone.

Heuwaage high-rise in Basel, the crane assembly

A crane on a construction site is more than just technology. It is a signal that the project is picking up speed. On behalf of Adimmo AG, the assignment was clear: document the entire crane assembly process from 11.00 a.m., with an interim status every two hours until around 8.00 p.m. in the evening.

What unfolded over the course of the day was impressive. The Musfeld team had precisely assembled large components and the crane grew meter by meter into the Basel sky. The fitters worked with concentration and routine, every move was perfect. The regular shots taken every two hours created a visual timeline showing the entire progress of this long working day.

The next day I came back for the final shots. The Musfeld crane was fully assembled on the construction site, ready for the next phase of the Adimmo AG project. A striking moment in the history of the Heuwaage high-rise.
